GM Shirts Through the Years

Red Kap’s history with automotive manufacturers started over 3 decades ago when we partnered with GM and Ford to develop apparel programs for their service departments. Recognizing the importance of having a unified, professional look for their Technicians, Service Advisors and Managers, they partnered with us to help translate their brand into a signature look.

GM’s first technician shirt (SP14GM) is still part of Red Kap’s core line of automotive apparel. Its classic color scheme and timeless look have made it a popular choice for many other companies – automotive and otherwise.

The next generation shirt featured fabric with a “watermark” print – innovative for the time and definitely eye-catching, this design emphasized the logo mark and Goodwrench name.

Their next uniform had a modern, clean design with a no-scratch placket with and versatile straight bottom hem. This tech shirt was the first Red Kap product featuring ripstop fabric – now featured in our popular Crew Shirt.

These days, GM’s service department program is known as “Certified Service.” Tech shirts have a low-key grey and black color-blocked design and a simple text embroidery.

What do you think? Which design is your favorite?
